Howard Smith Wharves

Coordinator: Donald Campbell

The Howard Smith Wharves under the northern end of the Story Bridge are an important cycle link that connects the (currently destroyed) New Farm section of Riverwalk to the CBD. For the last few years Brisbane City Council has been pushing proposals to redevelop the heritage listed site, which will have a major impact on its use for transport.

One Response to Howard Smith Wharves

  1. Tom Quinn says:

Putting aside the more obvious technical deficiencies with the bike path design, and the pedestrian pathway, there is also an aesthetic objection arising from the location, basically at the back of the site.
For at least 20 years, the BCC policy for private riverfront development has been to require construction of a substantial riverfront boardwalk – it is rather telling that the BCC has not imposed the same requirement for development of this public land.
