Bicentennial Bikeway

The Bicentennial Bikeway is being upgraded in stages, from a generally 3.0–3.5 metre wide shared path to a generally 3.5 metre wide dedicated bike path with a separate 2.0 metre wide pedestrian path. Although this will be of great benefit cyclists in the long term, the construction will cause some inconvenience.

There is also unrelated work to upgrade the path and improve security along the Northbank (city) section of the bikeway, between QUT and the Victoria Bridge, in four stages:

Stage one: Cribb Street to Park Road

  • Completed: August 2009.

Stage two: Lang Parade to Land Street

  • Completed: September 2010.

Kurilpa Park & Victoria Bridge upgrades

  • Scheduled: November 2010 – April mid 2011
  • Completed: mid 2011.
  • Required to facilitate detours during Hale Street East stage (below)
  • Kurilpa Park path (from the end of Riverside Drive to Kurilpa Bridge) closures:
    • Closed to cyclists 24 hours
    • Closed to pedestrians at night
    • Detour along Boundary Street & Montague Road (cyclists on-road)
  • Relatively minor changes to the path connections below Victoria Bridge (southern end)

Stage three: Park Road to Lang Parade

  • Scheduled:  current under works – March 2013 – June 2013 
  • Path has been narrowed down through work site, with only cyclists being able to proceed through. Cyclists are asked to ride with due care with regard to the reduced path width.

Stage four: Land Street to Landsborough Terrace

  • Not yet scheduled.

Northbank security upgrades

Between December 2010 and June 2011 the Department of Public Works will be performing works to improve lighting, pathway condition and install security cameras on the Northbank section of the Bicentennial Bikeway, between QUT and the Victoria Bridge. Efforts will be made to minimise disruptions but users can expect some partial and full closures, temporary detours and short term delays.

Victoria Bridge to Queens Wharf Road

  • December 2010 – end February 2011
  • Partial closure for works and painting.
  • Half of area fenced.
  • Stop/go control when necessary to move equipment, etc.

Queens Wharf Road to QUT ferry terminal

  • February 2011 – April 2011
  • Partial closure for works and painting.
  • Fencing half of pathway.
  • Stop/go conrol when necessary.

QUT ferry terminal through Parliament carpark (pedestrian pathway)

  • February 2011 – April 2011
  • Full closure.
  • Detour pathway through carpark.

QUT ferry terminal to Goodwill Bridge

  • February 2011 – May 2011
  • Full closure.
  • Detour via QUT campus (Gardens Point Road)
