BCC advises that the bi-directional bike lane on George Street will be closed at various times to facilitate the re-construction of footpaths around the new Magistrates Court Complex. Work includes construction of the new kerb line, and pouring and smoothing of the new footpath with grinders.
The bike lane should be closed only in off-peak hours and only when necessary. The work is expected to continue until the end of June.
The construction of the footpaths is being managed in 7 stages and the detours of pedestrians and cyclists will change when the different sections are being constructed.
BCC advises that cyclists should exercise caution around the work zones and cross to the western side of George Street or use the Roma Street bicycle lanes to reach Turbot Street, Adelaide Street and King George Square to cycle to city destinations. From Tank Street, cyclists can ride up the western side of George Street to Turbot Street when the bicycle lane is closed.
