Energex SE Bikeway Detour Extended

Believe it or not, Energex seem to have given themselves another 20 days to work on their cabling project. Energex has extended their current SE Bikeway closure (see the CBD BUG website for a map) until March 29. If all of that isn’t enough, they still haven’t finished their works near QUT, and who knows if that will involve another closure of the bikeway.

On the original sign advertising the detour on the Woolloongabba side, someone simply wrote a “2″ in front of the 9 (where it said March 9th), while on the sign at South Bank they made the effort to write the dates out again.

Combined with the works Energex are doing and the North-South Bypass Tunnel construction, a relaxing ride, for commuting to work, for exercise or for recreation is becoming ever more impossible. The upcoming Bike Week is a chance for cyclists to become more vocal about these issues, besides writing to our councellors and government MP’s.

Well the bikeway has been reopened finally… a few days late, but open! I rode on it today and felt so less stressed not having to compete with the cars.

I might add another note about the NSBT detour… the last part of bikeway between Reis St and O’Keefe St has been blocked off at various times during the day. I encourage you all to approach the traffic controllers and voice your disgust… but be polite about the way you go about it.. and contact RiverCity Motorway’s toll free number. Otherwise stay silent, brave Ipswitch Road and watch the looks on the car drivers’ faces.
